What We Like
+Ultra-fast f/1.25 aperture with improved sharpness and lower chromatic aberration wide open compared to Mark I
+Lightweight design at 514g (90g reduction from Mark I) for improved balance and portability
+Glow-in-the-dark aperture and depth-of-field markings for low-light operation
+Excellent bokeh quality with smooth 12-blade diaphragm
+Affordable alternative to Leica's Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 ASPH (priced at $469 versus $15,000+)
+New optical formula delivering marked improvement in image quality and compression for portraits
Worth Knowing
Requires precise calibration out of the box for consistent sharp results at f/1.25; not plug-and-play
Razor-thin focus plane at wide apertures requires careful focus assist tools and micro-adjustments
Some flare performance issues, particularly with light sources outside the frame creating rainbow artifacts
Unit focus design limits optimization to a single distance; focus shift may occur at different shooting distances

General

About This Lens
An exceedingly fast portrait lens for Leica M-mount rangefinder cameras, the 7Artisans 75mm f/1.25 II mixes a unique focal length and bright design with upgraded handling, a lighter construction, and smoother bokeh compared to the first generation. This comes with a new optical formula for improved sharpness, contrast, and lower chromatic aberrations when shot wide open, making it a dramatically more affordable alternative to Leica's Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 ASPH, which can cost upward of $15,000. However, on-camera focus assist tools and micro-adjustment are almost mandatory if you want consistently sharp results at f/1.25, and even when perfectly calibrated, wide open the focus plane is razor-thin.
