About This LensThis Canon EF-S zoom is made for APS-C cameras. Its 10–18mm range gives a very wide view that suits interiors, architecture and landscapes. You can include more of a room or building from one position when space limits where you can stand. Canon introduced the lens in 2014. The main trade-off is light gathering: its maximum aperture changes from f/4.5 to f/5.6 across the zoom. Built-in stabilization helps with camera shake when you photograph still scenes in dim light. The range stays very wide, so a standard or telephoto lens adds tighter views. Check that your camera accepts the EF-S mount before buying.

About the OpticsAt 10mm, you can include more surroundings from one position. Zooming toward 18mm narrows the view when the widest setting includes too much. It does not change perspective from that position. Check the frame edges for distracting objects before taking the photograph. Moving close makes a foreground object look prominent against distant scenery. That change of viewpoint creates the perspective. Tilt the camera upward and vertical lines converge. Keep it level when parallel verticals matter, while checking whether the building still fits. Closest focus is 0.7 ft (22 cm), measured from the sensor. This lets you work close to a foreground detail while including some surroundings. Leave room ahead of the glass and avoid shading the subject. The front of the lens is closer than the sensor. The maximum aperture narrows from f/4.5 at 10mm to f/5.6 at 18mm. In dim rooms, you may need a higher ISO or firm support for a slower shutter speed. Close subjects can still have a soft background. Stop down and choose focus carefully when details at several distances must stay sharp.

About the FeaturesImage stabilization reduces camera shake when you work handheld. A still room can allow a slower shutter speed than a moving person. Stabilization does not stop subject movement, so people walking through the scene still need enough shutter speed. A tripod gives a firm base for long exposures. There is no zoom lock switch. The lens also has no weather sealing, so protect it from rain and blowing dust. Keep the camera connection clean and dry when changing lenses. The front glass lacks a fluorine coating, so it lacks that specific help with water and oily marks. Remove loose grit before wiping spots or fingerprints.
Weather Sealing ⓘWeather sealing capabilities will give you more confidence when shooting in unfavourable conditions. | No |
Fluorine Coating ⓘCoating to repel water and oil from lens elements. | No |
| Built In Lens Hood | No |

Zoom Lock ⓘZoom lock allows the zoom ring to be locked at the desired focal length | No |
Teleconverter ⓘA teleconverter (extender) is an extra piece of equipment that fits between the lens and the camera body to enhance magnification
| Image Stabilization | Yes |
IS Efficiency ⓘIS efficiency refers to the effectiveness of the image stabilization system in compensating for the blurring effects of camera shake, quantified by the number of stops of stabilization it provides. | 4 stops |

About the ConstructionOne aspherical element helps correct distortion and spherical aberration, which can bend straight lines or soften detail. One UD element helps reduce coloured fringes along high-contrast edges, such as a bright window against a dark interior.
