About This LensThis Fujifilm X prime uses a fixed 56mm focal length and covers APS-C cameras. Fujifilm introduced this WR version in 2022. Its short telephoto view and f/1.2 maximum aperture suit portraits, details and people photographed in dim interiors. It lets you frame tightly while leaving some space between camera and subject. The main trade-off is fixed framing. It cannot widen the view when another person enters the picture. A small room may leave too little space for a large group or full-length portrait. Think about your working distance before choosing it as the only lens for an event.

About the BuildThe lens weighs 15.7 oz (445 g) and measures 2.99 in (76 mm) long and 3.13 in (79.4 mm) across. Support it with your free hand when shooting. Consider the camera and lens together when choosing a strap or small bag. Screw-in filters must match the 67mm front thread to attach directly.

About the OpticsThe 56mm focal length gives a short telephoto view on APS-C. From one position, it frames a person more tightly than a shorter focal length. Moving back changes perspective as well as framing. This can help you make a close portrait without putting the camera very near the person’s face. The f/1.2 maximum aperture gives more room for a faster shutter speed or lower ISO in dim light than a smaller opening. In bright conditions, retaining that aperture may need a very fast shutter speed or an appropriate neutral-density filter. Exposure still depends on the light falling on the subject. At close portrait distances, f/1.2 can leave only a thin zone sharp. Focus on the eye that matters most and check again if the person moves. Stop down when more of the face or several people need to stay sharp. Space behind the subject also helps make the background soft. Closest focus is 1.6 ft (50 cm), measured from the sensor. Maximum magnification reaches 0.14x, useful for larger details such as flowers or accessories. Leave enough distance for the lens to focus. Very small objects remain modest in the frame even at the closest setting.

Features52/100 | |
About the FeaturesThere is no stabilization in the lens. A camera with body stabilization can reduce shake for still subjects. A seated person may still move, so choose shutter speed for that movement as well. A tripod gives a firm base for controlled portraits, long exposures and carefully arranged compositions. Weather resistance helps during outdoor sessions. Use cover in persistent rain. Fluorine coating helps water and oily marks wipe away from the front glass. Remove loose grit before wiping spots, especially after working near sand or soil.
Weather Sealing ⓘWeather sealing capabilities will give you more confidence when shooting in unfavourable conditions.

About the ConstructionTwo aspherical elements help correct distortion and spherical aberration, which can bend lines or soften detail. One ED element helps reduce coloured fringes along high-contrast edges, such as a bright window behind a person. Element counts describe the design, rather than proving its measured sharpness.
