Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2.8 R WR

This Fujifilm X prime has a fixed 23mm focal length and covers APS-C cameras. Fujifilm introduced it in 2025. Its short body suits a small everyday kit for streets, travel and people shown with their surroundings. The modest weight makes it easy to leave on the camera.

The main trade-off is light gathering. Its f/2.8 maximum aperture is useful for everyday work, but a wider aperture can give more room for a fast shutter speed in dim conditions. Choose this lens when compact size matters more than that extra opening or a zoom range.

The lens weighs 3.2 oz (90 g) and measures 0.91 in (23 mm) long and 2.43 in (61.8 mm) across. It adds little bulk in front of the camera. The camera body and strap still determine how the complete kit carries. Screw-in filters must match the 39mm front thread to attach directly.

The 23mm focal length gives a moderately wide view on APS-C. It can show a person in a room or street without losing all the surrounding context. Watch the edges for objects that compete for attention. A small shift in viewpoint can separate the subject from a distracting background.

There is no zoom range. Move closer for a larger subject, or step back to include more when space allows. Moving also changes perspective. For a close portrait, avoid placing the camera so near that the nearest parts of the face look unusually large.

The f/2.8 maximum aperture gives more room for a faster shutter speed or lower ISO than a smaller opening. A nearby subject can have a soft background when that background is well behind it. Stop down when objects at several distances need to remain sharp.

Closest focus is 0.7 ft (20 cm), measured from the sensor. Maximum magnification reaches 0.15x, useful for larger details such as food or a small arrangement. Leave room ahead of the glass and avoid shading the subject. A close viewpoint also makes nearby objects look prominent against distant scenery.

There is no stabilization in the lens. A camera with body stabilization can help reduce shake for still scenes. In dim streets, moving people still need enough shutter speed for their movement. A firm support remains useful for a carefully framed night scene or a long exposure.

Weather resistance helps during outdoor use. Use cover in persistent rain and remove moisture before packing the lens away. This protection does not make careless handling in sand or blowing dust a good idea. Keep caps in place when the lens is off the camera.

Two aspherical elements help correct distortion and spherical aberration, which can bend straight lines or soften detail. Those corrections matter when a street picture includes windows, signs and other defined edges. Their presence does not by itself establish the lens’s measured sharpness.
