What We Like
+First 35mm Noctilux ever made—legendary f/1.2 maximum aperture for unmatched low-light performance
+Remarkably compact and lightweight (416g) design achieved through innovative Precision Glass Molding technology
+Exceptional optical quality with minimal chromatic aberrations and distinctive velvety Noctilux bokeh
+Closest focusing Noctilux ever at 0.5m, enabling creative subject separation and intimate framing
+Handcrafted precision in Wetzlar with 3-nanometer tolerance aspherical elements and floating mechanism for consistent performance
Worth Knowing
Extremely expensive at $9,650—a significant premium justified primarily by brand heritage and optical character rather than technical superiority
Integrated lens hood alignment occasionally inconsistent and can obstruct rangefinder view slightly
Manual focus only with no autofocus—requires practice for precise focusing at f/1.2
Premium pricing makes it inaccessible to most photographers; alternatives like Voigtländer 35mm f/1.2 Nokton IV offer comparable optical results at fraction of cost

General

About This Lens
The Noctilux-M 35mm f/1.2 ASPH. is the first wide-angle Noctilux and fastest 35mm lens ever produced by Leica, mixing high speed and selective focus control with a natural wide-angle field of view and uniquely compact design. Condensed into a 415 gram, 5.02 centimetre package with ten lenses in five groups and three aspherical elements, it enables exceptionally precise manual focusing with a close focus distance of just 0.5 metres. Reviewers praised its overall lack of flare issues and exceptional optical design, finding contrast fully retained even at f/1.4 with minimal chromatic aberrations. At $9,650, the lens represents some of the most prestigious and expensive optics, though the visual character and handcrafted quality justify the investment for dedicated Leica rangefinder users.
