About This LensThis is an ultra-wide zoom for Nikon Z full-frame cameras. The 14–30mm span suits landscape, architecture and interior photography, and it also serves real-estate and travel work. When 14mm takes in too much, the 30mm end trims the frame to a more measured view. One zoom covers both settings, which keeps lens changes to a minimum. Nikon introduced the lens in 2019. Its f/4 maximum aperture stays available throughout the zoom. Consider that opening when planning dim interiors or evening landscapes, especially if the scene includes people or plants that move during a long exposure.

About the OpticsTwo extremes define the range. At 14mm, the lens reaches across broad landscapes and lets you work from inside cramped rooms or narrow streets. The 30mm end tightens the view when the wide setting sweeps in more foreground or sky than the picture needs. The f/4 maximum aperture stays available at every focal length. Zooming changes the composition, so a meter reading can still change with the scene. At dusk, check the shutter speed and ISO needed for a handheld picture. Firm support helps when a still composition requires a long exposure. Close focusing reaches 0.9 ft (28 cm). That lets you stand near foreground detail such as rock formations or doorways and keep the wide scene behind it. Perspective follows where you stand, so stepping closer deepens the foreground emphasis that wide views create. The maximum magnification is 0.16x. Depth of field depends on aperture, focus distance and focal length. A nearby rock and distant buildings may need a smaller aperture to appear sharp together. Choose the focus position deliberately and check both parts of the scene. A close subject can still have a soft background, even with a wide view.

About the FeaturesThe lens carries sealing against dust and moisture. That protection suits coastal walks, dusty trails and changeable weather. A fluorine coating on the front element helps make cleaning easier after damp or gritty outings. The retractable design reduces the space needed for transport. Check that the lens is in its shooting position before starting a sequence. Protect the mount during lens changes and keep both ends capped when the lens is off the camera. There is no image stabilisation in the lens. A camera with body stabilisation can help with shake. Firm support helps with long exposures of still scenes, but a moving person or plant can continue to blur. Choose shutter speed for the subject as well as your own hold.
Weather Sealing ⓘWeather sealing capabilities will give you more confidence when shooting in unfavourable conditions.

Construction54/100 | |
About the ConstructionThe 14-element, 12-group design includes four aspherical and four ED elements. Aspherical surfaces help correct distortion and spherical aberration, which is useful when straight walls fill a wide frame. ED glass helps reduce coloured fringes along high-contrast edges, such as branches against bright sky. Their presence does not establish measured image quality.
Elements ⓘLens elements refer to individual pieces of glass within the lens. | 14 |
| Groups | 12 |
Aspherical Elements ⓘThe number of aspherical lens elements which can help correct aberrations such as spherical aberration. | 4 |
Bi Aspherical Elements ⓘElements with two non-spherical surfaces | 0 |
Low Dispersion ⓘElements that reduce chromatic aberration | 4 |
Super Low Dispersion ⓘAdvanced elements further reducing chromatic aberration | 0 |
CA Reduction ⓘBuilt-in features to reduce chromatic aberration | 0 |
Internal Focusing ⓘInternal Focusing means that the lens does not change in size during focusing, and the front element does not rotate.
