The Nikon Z 35mm f/1.2 S is a fast prime for full-frame Nikon Z cameras, released in 2025. It suits environmental portraits, weddings, street scenes and dim interiors. The fixed 35mm focal length can include a subject and some surroundings, depending on your position. There is no zoom ring.

The trade-off is bulk. At 2 lb 5.4 oz (1060 g) it is a heavy lens for a short prime, and there is no stabilization to steady handheld shooting. In return, the f/1.2 aperture is unusually wide for a 35mm lens.

The front takes screw-in 82mm filters directly, so any filter you buy must match that thread diameter. An ND filter in that thread helps you keep the f/1.2 aperture usable in bright daylight.

A 35mm lens shows a person with room around them. That suits scenes where the setting carries part of the story, such as wedding receptions or street scenes. You tighten or widen the frame by stepping closer or back. Perspective follows your viewpoint, so that movement also changes how near and far elements relate.

Internal focusing keeps the external length unchanged during focusing. This describes barrel movement, not focus speed. Check focus on the part of the subject that matters, particularly when working close at the widest aperture.
