What We Like
+Extremely affordable at $169 MSRP, making wide-angle shooting accessible to budget photographers
+Lightweight and compact at 230g with aluminum alloy construction, ideal for travel and everyday photography
+Wide 97° angle of view enables creative landscape, architecture, and wide environmental portraits
+Fast f/2.0 aperture suitable for low-light conditions and depth-of-field control
+Solid manual focus with smooth focus ring and close minimum focus distance of 0.18m for creative close-ups
+Well-built all-metal construction with tactile aperture and focus rings
Worth Knowing
−Soft corners and borders, especially at f/2, with noticeable field curvature requiring stopped-down apertures for edge sharpness
−No autofocus—manual focus only with no electronic lens contacts limits EXIF data recording
−Poor flare resistance in bright sunlight without the included hood, requiring careful composition or sun blocking
−Corner performance and distortion characteristics make it best suited for walk-around and casual shooting rather than critical landscape work

General

About This Lens
The Pergear 12mm f/2 II is a lightweight upgrade to the first generation, weighing 230 grams and 70 grams lighter than its predecessor. At $169 MSRP, it's a very affordable option for APS-C photographers looking for a first wide angle. It offers good center sharpness, improving to excellent at F5.6, but corner performance is average wide open. It's actually way tamer, with very nice contrast and pretty good sharpness across the frame, making it a solid budget ultrawide for travel and casual photography despite its optical limitations.
