What We Like
+8x zoom range with bright F2.8 aperture at wide end maintains usable brightness throughout zoom
+Exceptional close-focusing capability with 1:1.9 magnification ratio at 25mm end for half-macro shooting
+Fast, quiet VXD autofocus with significantly improved AF speed and subject tracking compared to predecessor
+Compact and lightweight (575g, 121.5mm length) for its focal range and aperture
+Excellent optical quality with minimal flare; BBAR-G2 coating effectively controls ghosting
+Expanded 25mm wide end provides better framing flexibility than 28mm predecessor
Worth Knowing
Strong geometric distortion and lateral chromatic aberration at wide end
Soft corners and peripheral shading at wide focal lengths
Some zoom creep near wide end despite locking mechanism
No optical image stabilization; requires IBIS-equipped camera body for stabilization

Read our notes on general
The Tamron 25-200mm F/2.8-5.6 Di III VXD G2 (Model A075) succeeds the acclaimed 28-200mm with an advanced second-generation design. Expanding to 25mm wide while maintaining 200mm telephoto reach, the lens improves optical quality and features faster autofocus with a 1:1.9 maximum magnification ratio. For an 8x superzoom, it produces remarkably sharp image quality, though strong geometric distortion, lateral chromatic aberration, and peripheral shading appear at the wide end. The VXD autofocus is quiet, accurate, and notably quick in continuous AF; focus breathing is minimal across the zoom range.
