What We Like
+Exceptional compactness and lightweight (445g) for an ultra-wide f/2.8 zoom—significantly lighter than competitors
+77mm front filter thread uncommon in ultra-wide zooms, enabling use of standard ND and polarizing filters
+Excellent astrophotography performance with minimal coma correction and sharpness at f/2.8
+Versatile 14-24mm range with consistent f/2.8 aperture throughout and 0.18m close focus across entire range
+Fast, silent linear stepping motor autofocus with customizable function button and USB-C firmware updates
+Collaborative Schneider-Kreuznach optical design combining German precision with Korean manufacturing
Worth Knowing
Flare resistance issues with noticeable ring flare and veiling flare at certain angles, especially at 14mm setting
Corner sharpness softness at f/2.8, requiring stopping down to f/8 for optimal edge-to-edge performance
Uncovered USB-C port vulnerable to dust and moisture despite overall weather sealing claim
Non-parfocal design requires focus adjustment when changing focal length

General

About This Lens
LK Samyang's first super-wide angle autofocus zoom lens for Sony Full-Frame E-mount, the AF 14-24mm f/2.8 FE is a compact and lightweight super-wide-angle zoom measuring 88.8mm in length and weighing only 445g developed with Schneider-Kreuznach. It is the world's first ultra-wide zoom lens that allows for the attachment of front filters, offering 77mm filter compatibility. The lens performs well for nightscapes and astrophotography and replaces three popular lenses in a small, light and reasonably compact package, though veiling flare can be a problem at certain angles, and for a lens released in 2025 this is not great performance, showing more issues than the nearly two-decade-old Nikon AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8G.
