What We Like
+World's first 10x full-frame zoom lens starting at ultra-wide 20mm
+Extremely compact and lightweight at 540g for the full zoom range
+Fast and silent HLA autofocus motor suitable for video and stills
+Excellent sharpness throughout the zoom range, from 20mm to 200mm
+Half-macro capability (1:2 magnification) from 28-85mm for close-ups
Worth Knowing
−Variable aperture narrows significantly to f/6.3 at 200mm, limiting low-light performance
−Notable distortion and vignetting at the ultra-wide 20mm end despite being acceptable
−Softer corners at wide apertures, particularly at 20mm
−No optical image stabilization; requires camera body IBIS

General

About This Lens
The Sigma 20-200mm F3.5-6.3 DG Contemporary is the world's first high-power zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras that achieves both 20mm at the wide end and a 10x zoom ratio. The lens delivers a consistently comfortable shooting experience, with its thoroughly compact and lightweight design, as well as fast, accurate autofocus powered by a linear motor HLA. While it provides impressive zoom flexibility with a 10x range and up to 1:2 magnification, it achieves this at the cost of optical compromises, especially on the wide end, where distortion and vignette are significant challenges. The Sigma 20-200mm joins the Tamron 28-200mm as being surprisingly strong entries in the superzoom genre, and they really aren't worse than 24-105mm F4 lenses despite having a bigger zoom range.
