About This LensThis Sigma prime gives full-frame photographers a 24mm wide view at a bright f/1.4. It comes in Leica L and Sony E versions, so choose the mount that matches your camera. The pairing suits spaces and light that slower lenses struggle with. Interiors, architecture, night streets and star-filled skies are natural territory. The wide view also frames people within a setting rather than alone. The trade-off is the single focal length. You frame by moving, which takes practice in tight rooms. Sigma introduced this design in 2022 and still builds it, so this is a current model.

About the BuildThe Leica L version weighs 1 lb 2.3 oz (520 g). The barrel runs 2.98 in (75.7 mm) wide and 3.76 in (95.5 mm) long. A 72mm thread takes screw-in filters directly, sharing filters with other lenses of that size.

About the OpticsAt 24mm you frame wide. A whole room, a building front or a sweep of landscape fits without stepping back. In a cramped interior, that wide view is often the only way to include the scene. Nothing zooms, so you frame by moving yourself. The f/1.4 aperture is a main reason to pick this prime over a slower zoom. It passes far more light, which can help keep shutter speeds usable in dim rooms, on evening streets and under night skies, depending on the available light and subject movement. Handheld work after dark may be realistic with a steady hold and enough light. Depth of field behaves as wide angles do. How much stays sharp, and how strongly a near subject separates from its background, depends on aperture, focus distance and the distances to both. The 11 blades help the aperture stay near-circular when stopped down, smoothing out-of-focus highlights. Close focus at 0.8 ft (25 cm) lets you build layered compositions. A foreground rock, doorway or puddle can anchor a wide scene and still read clearly against the distance, which gives the picture depth. Distant subjects appear small at 24mm, so a strong foreground or a leading line helps the composition carry.

About the FeaturesThis prime is weather sealed, which reduces the risk of dust and moisture getting inside. That protection is welcome when shooting outdoors. A fluorine coating on the front glass helps water and oil slide off, which makes cleaning easier after sea spray or fingerprints. There is no built-in image stabilization. A 24mm view makes small camera movements less visible than a long lens would. The absence matters less here than on a telephoto. In fading light you lean on a steady hold, a higher ISO or a tripod. Star-filled skies in particular favour the tripod.

Construction69/100 | |
About the ConstructionThe optical formula uses 17 elements in 14 groups. The design includes aspherical elements, whose shaped surfaces help correct distortion and spherical aberration. That helps for rooms and facades, where distortion can bend straight edges. Low-dispersion glass helps reduce chromatic aberration, so colour fringes along high-contrast edges, such as branches against a bright sky, are less likely to dominate. Focusing moves elements inside the barrel.
Elements ⓘLens elements refer to individual pieces of glass within the lens. | 17 |
| Groups | 14 |
Aspherical Elements ⓘThe number of aspherical lens elements which can help correct aberrations such as spherical aberration. | 1 |
Bi Aspherical Elements ⓘElements with two non-spherical surfaces | 0 |
Low Dispersion ⓘElements that reduce chromatic aberration | 1 |
Super Low Dispersion ⓘAdvanced elements further reducing chromatic aberration | 0 |
CA Reduction ⓘBuilt-in features to reduce chromatic aberration | 2 |
Internal Focusing ⓘInternal Focusing means that the lens does not change in size during focusing, and the front element does not rotate.
